Frequently Asked Questions
Board Questions
What’s the difference between End Grain and Long Grain (aka Edge Grain)?
End grain is a technique where the ends of the lumber are cut and rotated to make up the surface of a board. Long grain is leaving the board structure as the lumber was originally cut, along the grain of the wood.

Why would someone want End Grain?
When a board is made End Grain, the fibers of the wood stick up and act as cushions for the blade. End Grain boards typically are better for your knives, and are harder to scratch.
Which means your blades stay sharper longer and your boards retain far less cut marks. Translating to less maintenance.
Is epoxy food safe?
Yes, We use Total Boat epoxy which is VOC and BPA free.
Why do boards vary in price?
Our boards are priced based on material and labor.
Example 1: Walnut is substantially more expensive than a wood like maple.
Example 2: End grain boards take about 3x the labor to make than long grain boards do.
Board Care

How do I need to condition my board?
- Wash with hot water and dish soap, pat dry with a clean towel
- Place the cutting board on its edge to dry for 3-5 hours
- Apply a generous coat of our wood wax (or similar wood wax) to all surfaces
- Let sit for 15 minutes
- Wipe dry with a clean cloth
How often do I need to condition my board?
Every 6-8 weeks OR if the board begins to look dry or dull
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH YOUR CUTTING BOARD
Never put in the dishwasher because the heat and water will warp and splinter the wood.
Do not stick knives in the board
Do not soak in the sink or the dish pan as the board soaks up water and can crack or twist or bow, or all of these at once
Do not put hot utensils, tea pots or pans on the cutting board. Placing hot steaks or other cooked meat on the board is okay.
Do not put into the Microwave or the Oven. Even if your microwave is big enough for our board, the board inside the Microwave might cause issues. Boards have metal screws in the feet and this is bad for the microwave. Boards might dry out and this is bad for the boards.
Do not put near heat sources. Don’t forget they are made from wood.
Do not use olive or vegetable oils for maintenance as they turn rancid quickly.
